10353714_10152506131207871_9058611682589897958_nKelli “Rua” Klein, was born into a dynamic and creative family in California in 1969. While young she was exposed to a diverse world of anthropology, art and design. She began creating in mixed media while in college, and graduated with a BS in Graphic Design. By 2011, she travelled all over the world, visiting Europe, Costa Rica and India. She is inspired by the intersecting circles and spheres of our lives, community and world, and symbolizes the strength and flight of the spirit through juxtaposing various materials such as steel and fabric – paper and wood. Currently she is one of 8 artists at Flat Rat Studios in Portland, Oregon.

Circe Lux

IMG_0420

In 2010 she designed her first interactive steel sculpture, Circe Lux. In collaboration with over 50 participants from her community, Rua asked the community to create their own fabric designs to be included in the wings. She then sewed the contributions together, with many others providing skills and time to create a true collaborative community-created art installation. She then gifted over 100 Luxwing bronze pendants from the sculpture on the 12 locks welded to the wings – each lock had one key, and the participant had to discover the pendant, then find the key to unlock the gift.

Circe Lux has been on exhibit, daytime and nighttime, at a variety of events, including Burning Man 2010, Tribal Convergence Tidewater Falls 2011, and Oregon Country Fair 2014.
